Healthy soil and water are key to maintaining Iowa’s place as the agricultural heartland. Our state has 100 soil and water conservation districts that work with farmers and landowners. Local offices develop relationships with individuals, encouraging them to implement conservation practices that help reduce soil erosion and nutrient runoff that can pollute our waterways.
Last session, the Legislature set aside a record amount of money to pay for water quality. Even with the major increase in funding, there are still unmet needs and requests from landowners in every county across the state. It is critical that we continue providing sufficient resources to meet the demand by Iowans who want to improve and protect our soil and water for future generations.
